Huashan Group is a China-based wholesaler supplying raw food ingredient (coffee, tea, spices, herbs) from different countries to F&B companies. As agricultural products are not consistent in nature, the QC manager as part of his daily job tastes the ingredients from each batch of supplies to ensure consistency. If the quality is not acceptable, he will reject the batch or blend with different grades to achieve the required taste based on customer requirement. After implementing the solution, instead of physically tasting the batches, the QC manager uses ProfilePrint to scan the sample from each batch, matches against existing standard in the database and verify the consistency of the products received.

TURN AROUND TIME

Instead of tasting which requires brewing or cooking, ProfilePrint only requires few seconds to inspect the quality. More importantly, ProfilePrint is able to recommend options to blend from a list of existing products to create the required quality customised for their clients.

BEST PRICE

Digital tasting and matching allows significantly more similar products of same taste but lower prices to be identified by blending, allowing Huashan to maximise it profits by approximately 10-30%

KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT

If the QC manager leaves the company, the knowledge is retained in the A.I. model of the taste prediction generated with the training data from the QC manager.

aDULTERATION DETECTION

1872 Clipper is a Singapore-based tea retail brand with global distribution. As brand reputation and taste consistency is crucial for the company, 1872 Clipper invests significantly in sending samples for laboratory testing as well as developing in-house testing capabilities.

It is common for unscrupulous suppliers to adulterate products with cheap fillers such as sugar, ash or even spent leaves, and also passing of a higher grade product from a lower grade source, example repacking Indonesian black tea as premium Dimbula Ceylon tea. 1872 Clipper ensures authenticity with sampling laboratory testing as well as random tasting of received products. 1872 Clipper now uses ProfilePrint to inspect for adulteration, which is non-destructive and rapid, and hence able to conduct more rigorous and comprehensive checks compared to expensive laboratory testing. They are also able to identify cases where suppliers blends lower quality ingredients and passing off as higher value products.

PROTECTING BRAND REPUTATION

As ProfilePrint is real time and non-destructive, 1872 Clipper is able to conduct more comprehesive and rigorous inspection on products received instead of sampling test, hence significantly reducing the probability of selling fraudulent or adulterated products to its end customers.

LOWER COST

Compared to laboratory test costing USD300- 500 for each authentication, ProfilePrint costs significantly lower per test. 1872 Clipper conducts 100 tests per year, the annual savings is about USD30,000 – 50,000. Also with ProfilePrint, 1872 Clipper is also able to test more than 100 batches with ProfilePrint.

TASTE PREDICTION & MATCHING

Tea Tang, a Sri-lanka based Tea Factory sources teas from farmers and processes for export purposes. They typically receive requests for bulk teas of specific taste based on a reference sample the client provides. After implementing the solution, instead of physically tasting the sample and also tasting all the available inventory to find a match, Tea Tang uses ProfilePrint to scan the sample from the client, matches against existing digital inventory pre-scanned and finds the closest taste match within seconds which is optimised base on lowest price.
